The first Grand Slam final for the girl from New York, and the second in a row for the Belarusian legend - the US Open will have a new queen this year.
The American sensation Jesicka Pegula and the double champion of the Australian Open Arina Sabaljenko will play in the grand final of the Grand Slam in New York.
In the first match of the evening, the tennis player from Minsk was better than the local competitor Emma Navarro (6:2, 7:6), while the local hope defeated Karolina Muhova (1:6, 6:4, 6:2).
Until this US Open, Pegula had lost all five quarterfinals at Grand Slam tournaments, and on Thursday she first eliminated the number one tennis player in the world, Iga Sfjontek.
"Karolina played amazing at the start, and I looked like a beginner," said Pegula. "I wanted to cry, because it was embarrassing, she was destroying me - I honestly don't know how I turned everything around".
Unlike her, Sabaljenka has two Grand Slam titles, but none outside Australia. Now she has become the first player since 2019 and the great Serena Williams to reach two consecutive finals in New York.
Last year she was defeated by the local contestant Koko Gof.
When it comes to head-to-head duels, Sabaljenka has been much better so far, winning five of her previous seven matches, including the last one in Cincinnati last month.
