The world's number one tennis player Janik Siner said that the situation regarding a possible suspension due to doping is somewhat on his mind, but that he is not worried.
Siner led Italy to the second consecutive title in the Davis Cup tonight in Malaga, after his team beat the Netherlands 2:0 in the final.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) requested a suspension for Siner, who failed a doping test on two occasions, but the International Tennis Integrity Agency acquitted him, with the assessment that his former physiotherapist was to blame.
"Of course it's on my mind a little bit. Sometimes life is full of difficulties and you just have to face it," Siner said after the triumph in Malaga.
"However, I am not worried. I will cooperate as I did last time. I always point out that I had three hearings that ended positively," added the world number one player.
He tested positive in March, on two tests performed in eight days, and traces of clostebol were found in the urine sample.
"The most important thing is that everyone around me, who knows me, believes in me. That's why I continued to play at my level," said Siner, who has won the Shanghai Masters, the final ATP Masters and the Davis Cup since WADA filed an appeal.
He won nine titles this season, including the Australian Open and the US Open.
He will finish the season as the first on the ATP list, and this year he achieved a record of 73 wins and six losses.
"Now I'm going to rest a bit, it's been a long season. I joked with my teammates that we'll start again in a month," Siner said.
He is the second tennis player in history after the Swiss Roger Federer (2005) to win at least one set in every match of the season.
