The world's number one tennis player, Arina Sabalenka, reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in Brisbane today, after defeating the Kazakh player Yulia Putintseva 7:6 (2), 6:4.
The Belarusian won over the 29th player in the world in one hour and 49 minutes.
Putintseva was the first to break and lead 5:3, but in the 10th game Sabalenka managed to use the third break point and equalize the score.
In the 12th game, Sabalenka had the first set point on her rival's serve, but Putintseva managed to take the set to a tiebreak. In the extra game, Sabalenka won 7:2.
The Belarusian already broke at the start of the second set and then kept the advantage.
Sabalenka, who was defeated in the final of the tournament in Brisbane last year, will play against the Czech Maria Buzkova, the 44th player in the world, in the next round.
