The coach of the Australian tennis team, Leighton Hewitt, invited Nick Kyrgios to the selection for the upcoming duel against Sweden in the qualifiers for the Davis Cup.
Australia will play the Swedes in Stockholm on January 31 and February 1, and in addition to Kyrgios, Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson and Thanasi Kokkinakis have been invited to the national team.
Kyrgios has not played in the Davis Cup since 2019.
He reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, but has since struggled with injuries and returned to the court last week at the tournament in Brisbane.
In Brisbane, he also played in doubles, together with Novak Djokovic, where he was defeated in the quarterfinals by the New Zealand-Croatian doubles team of Michael Venus and Nikola Mektic.
Due to the long absence, the 29-year-old Kyrgios has no ranking on the ATP list, but he used the protected ranking for the Australian Open, which starts on January 12 in Melbourne.
