Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic said that Grand Slam matches are the most important, and that he is blessed to have set a new record today for the number of matches played at the biggest tournaments.
"The Grand Slams are the pillars of our sport. They mean everything to the history of our sport. Definitely the most important tournaments. I'm blessed to have set another record today," said the ten-time Australian Open winner.
Djokovic secured a place in the third round of the Australian Open earlier today, after defeating Portuguese player Jaime Faria 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2.
"He played incredibly well... I had to withstand that surge. I think I did very well in the third and especially the fourth set," Djokovic added.
He thus played the 430th Grand Slam match of his career, surpassing the previous record holder, Swiss Roger Federer. The Serbian tennis player has a record of 379 wins and 51 losses at the biggest tournaments, with a record 24 titles.
In the next round, the world's seventh-ranked player will play against Czech Tomaš Mahač, the world's 25th-ranked player.
