Janik Siner has a chance to defend his Australian Open title, playing in the final on Sunday against Alexander Zverev, after eliminating Ben Shelton in three sets.
The Italian pulled away in the first set when the American served for a 6:5 advantage (he won in a tiebreak), and later allowed his rival to win only four more games.
"It was extremely difficult in the first set. Ben wasn't serving very well, so I returned better, and he was returning better than he was serving. There was a lot of tension and suspense, so I'm happy with how it all ended," said the world number one.
It is expected to be tense in the duel with the German.
"This match could have gone on, I'm happy that it didn't and that I'm in the final again. Zverev? It's always been uncertain in our duels and anything is possible, I'm sure it will be tense. Saša is chasing his first Grand Slam title, and I'm happy that I'm in a position to chase the cup again," Siner pointed out.
