Novak Djokovic arrived in Doha with the desire to win the 100th title of his career, but he will still have to wait for that anniversary.
Djokovic lost to Matteo Berrettini 2:0 (7:6, 6:2) in the first round of the tournament tonight, after two sets, so now he only has doubles left, where he will play Fernando Verdasco.
This was Djokovic's first singles match since the Australian Open, the Serbian tennis player played a weak match, while Berrettini was at a high level, so for the first time in his career he managed to defeat the best tennis player of all time, in their fifth match.
There was no break in the first set, both players missed three break points each, so the set went into a tie-break in which Berrettini took the lead in sets.
The Italian served brilliantly tonight, his forehand was excellent, and he took a 3:0 lead in the second set and announced a two-set triumph. He then took another break and advanced to the next round.
Beretina will play against Grikspor in the second round.
