Big surprise at the Miami Masters - Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz lost in the second round to David Goffin 2:1 (7:5, 4:6, 3:6).
The Spaniard won the first set, but gave up in the second, playing weaker than in the first, so the Belgian managed to achieve his second triumph in their head-to-head matches.
"I was desperate. I wanted to play better, after the first set I expected to be better, but he played great. My level wasn't improving, but his was," Alkaras said after the match.
The Spaniard suffered his third defeat in 2025 to players outside the top 10. In Doha he lost to Jiri Lehecka (25), in Indian Wells to Jack Draper (14), and last night to Goffin, who is 55th on the ATP list.
"Physically I wasn't well, I wasn't feeling well. I didn't have the necessary confidence, and that's how it's really very difficult to play good tennis," said Alkaras.
Gofan is improving his form, having lost in the first round of the first five tournaments this season.
"I love these kinds of duels in the biggest stadiums. I'm overjoyed when I fight like this, when I feel the ball so well, I enjoyed every point. Physically I feel great," explained Gofan.
Goffin will play Nakashima in the next round.
