Polish tennis player Iga Sfjontek advanced to the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters after defeating the 22nd ranked tennis player in the world, Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, in two sets - 7:6, 6:3, on the night between Monday and Tuesday.
The world's second-ranked tennis player won after two hours and five minutes.
The tennis players made three breaks in the first set and a tie-break was played, which Sfjontek won 7:5.
She took a 4:1 lead in the second set, held the break advantage until the end, and after the first match point, advanced to the quarterfinals.
Her opponent will be Alexandra Eala from the Philippines, to whom Spain's Paula Badosa surrendered her round of 16 match without a fight.
Also in the quarterfinals is Belarusian Aryn Sabalenka, who will play against Chinese Qinwen Zhen, Italian Jasmine Paolini will play against Polish Magda Linet, and American Jessica Pegula will play against British Emma Raducanu.
