All men's and women's tennis matches at the Madrid Open have been cancelled due to a power outage across the Iberian Peninsula, organisers said.
"For reasons beyond the control of the organizers and for safety reasons, a nationwide power outage requires the cancellation of the day and evening matches at the Madrid tournament," the organizers said in a statement.
The matches were interrupted around 12.30:XNUMX p.m. when the power went out.
Today's program has been postponed to Tuesday.
Only three players, Mira Andreeva, Coco Goff and Matteo Arnaldi, completed their matches.
There was a massive power outage in Spain and Portugal today, affecting the capitals of Madrid and Lisbon.
The company Redelektrika, which produces electricity in Spain, said the Iberian Peninsula, which rarely experiences such a massive power outage, was affected.
It is not yet known how many of the 50 million residents of the two countries have been affected by the power outage.
