Italy celebrates - Jasmine Paolini is the winner of the Italian Open in Rome. She won the WTA 1000 final in the "eternal round" against the favored American Coco Gauff - 2:0 (6:4, 6:2).
The American lost her second consecutive WTA 1000 final, while the Italian won her second title at that level.
She previously won in Dubai last year. It is Paolini's third WTA title, but her first on clay. She became the first Italian to win in Rome since 1985, when Raffaele Reggie lifted the trophy.
Paolini will be the fourth player on the WTA list from tomorrow, which will be replaced by Polish Iga Sfjontek, who lost a lot of points because she won in Rome last year.
Tomorrow, Paolini will also play in the doubles final with Sara Erani, who was the last Italian in the Rome final in 2014. They will play against the doubles: Veronika Kudermetova - Elise Mertens.
