World number three German Alexander Zverev advanced to the final of the Stuttgart tournament today, after defeating American Brandon Shelton in two tiebreaks - 7:6, 7:6).
He defeated the 12th-ranked player on the ATP list after two hours and three minutes of play.
There were no breaks in the first set, and in the tie-break Zverev was more successful with 10:8, both players held serve in the second set, and the German won the tie-break with 7:1.
This is the first time in eight years that Zverev has reached the final of a grass-court tournament, having lost to Roger Federer in the 2017 Halle Trophy.
In the final, Zverev will play against American Taylor Fritz, who earlier defeated Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6:4, 7:6.
Zverev and Fric have played 12 head-to-head matches so far, with Fric leading 7:5 in wins.
