Belgian Elise Mertens achieved an extraordinary feat on the 's-Hertogenbosch court, as she managed to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova - 2:6, 7:6, 6:4, even though the Russian had 11 match points.
Aleksandrova's favorite court is grass, but Mertens managed to save 11 match points and repeat the success of Svetlana Kuznetsova, who at the age of 15 (in 2001) managed to win after facing 11 match points from her opponent.
In the final, Mertens will play Romanian Elena Gabriela Ruze, who also upset Italian Elisabetta Cocareto - 2:6, 6:4, 6:3.
In tennis history, only the Italian Adriano Panatta, in 1976, has ever celebrated facing 11 match points.
