Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova advanced to the final of the tournament in Berlin today, after defeating world number one Arina Sabalenko from Belarus 6:2, 6:4 after two sets.
The Czech, ranked 164th on the WTA list, won after an hour and 22 minutes.
She broke the Belarusian four times, allowing one break point to Sabalenka.
The Czech is known as a grass specialist, having won Wimbledon in 2023, and her job was made easier by the fact that the Belarusian had only 16 hours off from her semifinal marathon with Yelena Rybakina yesterday, which she won by saving four tied match points from the Kazakh in the third-set tiebreak.
The player from Sabalenka won the last 11 sets in which she played a tie-break.
In the final, Vondrousova will play against the better player from the Samsonova-Van duel.
