Three years ago, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud (3:1) in the US Open final to win his first Grand Slam title. And tonight, three years later, the young Spanish tennis player defeated Janik Siner 3:1 (6:2, 3:6, 6:1, 6:4) at the same tournament, in the same stadium, to win his second career title in New York.
Alcaraz won the sixth Grand Slam of his career tonight - he was the best twice at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, but he has never won the Australian Open. The Spaniard has a record of six wins and one loss in Grand Slam finals as of tonight. His only loss in the final was to Siner, this year at Wimbledon.
The Spaniard outplayed Siner, took his crown, since the Italian was the US Open champion last year, and also took over the first place in the ATP list from tonight's rival. Alcaraz will be the best tennis player in the world from tomorrow.
Alcaraz completely outplayed his rival tonight - he started strong from the start, achieved a break in the first game, then took a 2:0 lead, and in the seventh game he once again took away his rival's serve and took a 1:0 lead in sets.
At the start of the second set, Siner saved a break point, then played better and in the fourth game he reached a break point and a 3:1 lead. The Italian did not allow his rival a chance for a break in that part of the match, he preserved his advantage and reached a tie in sets.
But in the third, Alcaraz was phenomenal. The Spaniard recovered from the set loss, made two breaks, celebrated 6:1 and convincingly reached a 2:1 lead in sets.
In the first game of the fourth set, the Spaniard missed two break points. Then he got another chance in the fifth game - he broke his rival's serve, took a 3:2 lead, held on to his advantage and reached his sixth Grand Slam title.
