World number two Janik Siner will not play for the Italian national team in the Davis Cup finals, where his team will defend its two-consecutive title.
The Italian Tennis Federation announced today that Siner will not be part of the team for the competition to be held in Bologna from November 18 to 23, and that Lorenzo Muzzetti, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini and doubles players Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have been invited.
Italy coach Filippo Volandri said that Siner did not make himself available and that "the national team will always be his home."
"I'm sure Janik will return to the team soon," added the coach.
This season, Siner won titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, among other things, but took a three-month break due to a suspension for a positive doping test.
Italy will play Austria in the quarterfinals on November 19th, and in a possible semifinal against the better team from the match between France and Belgium, which will play the day before.
The remaining two quarterfinals will be played on November 20th: Spain - Czech Republic and Argentina - Germany.
