World number one Carlos Alcaraz defeated world number six American Taylor Fritz 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-3 in a second-round match in the "Jimmy Connors" group at the ATP Finals today in Turin.
The Spanish tennis player achieved his second triumph at the final Masters in two hours and 48 minutes.
Alcarras was the first to break in the match, breaking his opponent's serve in the third game. Fritz broke back in the next game, and the players continued to hold their serves.
The first set was decided in a tie-break, in which Fric won 7:2.
The only break in the second set was seen in the 12th game, when Alkaras used the second set point to tie the game at 1:1.
In the deciding set, Alkaras made a break in the sixth game. In the eighth game, he had three match points on his opponent's serve, which he did not convert, and he resolved the question of the winner in the next game.
Alcarras has had his best performance after two rounds at the ATP Finals (beating Alex de Minor from Australia 2:0 in the first round), while Fric recorded his first defeat (beating Italian Lorenzo Muzzi 2:0 in the first round).
Tonight, De Minor and Musetti meet in this group. The Australian is ranked seventh on the ATP list, while Musetti is ranked ninth in the world.
Alcarras would secure a place in the semifinals of the final tournament tonight if De Minor defeats Muzeti.
