Miloš Raonic has officially ended his career, and Novak Djokovic congratulated him in his own style.
It's about the Montenegrin "connection":
"Congratulations, brother, on a great career. Lots of reasons to be proud. It was a pleasure to share the court with you. See you in Đedovina," Djokovic wrote on Instagram.
Miloš Raonic, a 35-year-old Canadian tennis player, a guy who was born in Podgorica in 1990, announced his definitive retirement from tennis yesterday, even though he has not competed since the 2024 Paris Olympics. All due to an injury.
He left a big mark behind him - he played in the Wimbledon finals, the Australian Open semi-finals, was ranked third in the world and won eight ATP titles.
Miloš moved from Montenegro to Canada with his parents as a child, while Djokovic, the most successful tennis player of all time, has roots in Montenegro.
"My connection with Montenegro extends to several branches. Of course, my roots are from here, my grandfather, my great-grandfather, from Čevo they came down to Jasenovo polje, Nikšić, and then they went to Kosovska Mitrovica, and then to Belgrade. I am very proud of my roots," said Đoković in an interview with "Vijesti" last year.
Although three years older than Raonic, Djokovic is still playing, and not just playing - he is officially the fourth-ranked tennis player in the world, he reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments last season, and is now preparing for the Australian Open, his most successful Grand Slam.
Djokovic and Raonic have met 12 times and Novak won all 12 times.
