The Ozzie Open has started. And immediately surprises in the first Grand Slam of the season. The greatest feat was the qualifier from Great Britain, the 185th player Arthur Ferri, who eliminated the 22nd on the ATP list, the Italian Flavio Cobolli. It was Ferri's first career victory over a player from the top 30 on a hard surface.
Alexander Zverev is the first tennis player to advance past the first round for the 10th year in a row. The German won in four sets against Canadian Gabriel Diallo.
Damir Džumhur will also advance to the second round. His neighbor from Bosnia and Herzegovina easily defeated Canadian Liam Draxl (7:5, 6:0, 6:4).
In the women's competition, the match for the history of the Australian Open went to France's Elsa Jacquemont, who defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk after three hours and 31 minutes. That match was the first in the open era of women's skeleton in Melbourne to be decided in three tie-breaks.
