Italian tennis player Lorenzo Muzzetti advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open today, after defeating American Taylor Fritz 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.
Muzetti will play in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open against Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who advanced without a fight, after Czech Jakub Menšík withdrew from the tournament due to injury.
The world's fifth-ranked tennis player thus advanced to his fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal, the first in Melbourne.
He made two breaks in the first set, while he needed a break each to win the next two.
"I think my serve worked really well today," said Muzetti, who hit 13 aces and won 84 percent of his first serve points.
"When I finished last season, my goals were to start this year well because I've never skipped the first Sunday here. Reaching the Hong Kong final, winning the doubles in Hong Kong and this quarterfinal is really a dream for me," he added.
Djokovic and Muzeti have met ten times so far, and the Serbian tennis player has won nine times.
