Former Serbian tennis player and coach of the FED Cup team of Serbia and Montenegro, and then Serbia, Tatjana Ječmenica died last night in a serious car accident.
The accident occurred on the Belgrade bypass, at the Orlovača interchange in the direction of Ostružnica.
The traffic accident, in which a jeep and a tow truck collided, occurred shortly before 21 p.m. and Ječmenica died on that occasion, while according to the Novi Sad Dnevnik, her husband Darko Jevtić, director of the Vojvodina Regional Sports Club, was also in the car, and he is conscious but in an induced coma.
Tatjana Ječmenica was born on July 4, 1978 in Novi Sad. She was a professional tennis player, and after her career ended and her job as the head coach of the Serbian FED Cup team, she was a tennis coach and owner of the "Ječmenica" school in Novi Sad.
During her career, she won six ITF singles tournaments and three doubles tournaments, but did not win a WTA title.
She has played in all four Grand Slam tournaments, and her best performance was at Roland Garros, where she reached the second round in 1996. Her career-best ranking was 72nd in singles.
