World number one Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Doha, after defeating French player Valentin Roaje 6:2, 7:5.
The Spanish player defeated the 60th ranked player in the world in an hour and 35 minutes.
Alkaras broke his opponent twice in the first set, in the third and seventh games.
Roaje played better in the second set and broke in the fourth game to take a 3:1 lead. Roaje led 5:2, but Alcaraz then won five games in a row to advance to the top eight.
Alcaraz will face seventh seed Russian Karen Khachanov (17th player in the world) in the quarterfinals.
Earlier tonight, the world's second-ranked player, Italian Janik Siner, also secured a place in the quarterfinals, defeating Australian Alexei Popirin 6:3, 7:5.
Siner will play against sixth seed Czech Jakub Menšík (16th on the ATP list) in the next round.
The tournament in Doha is played on hard courts for a prize pool of $2.833.335.
