Italian tennis player Janik Siner continues his great results this season - the world's number one tennis player defeated Alexander Zverev 2:0 (6:1, 6:2) in the final of the Masters in Madrid today.
There wasn't much drama today in the Spanish capital. Siner took a 5-0 lead after 17 minutes, quickly won the first set, and in the second set, tied three games from 3-2 and made tennis history.
Siner won his fifth consecutive Masters Series tournament, a feat no one else has achieved. He won in Paris at the end of last season, and then this season he was the best in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and today in Madrid. He became the first tennis player to win the first four Masters events of the season.
The Italian reached his 23rd consecutive victory this season today, and his 45th in the last 47 matches.
"There's a lot of hard work behind this success. A lot of dedication and sacrifice that I put in every day. It means a lot to me. I'm very happy that I continue to believe in myself and give my best every day," Siner said after the match.
Zverev last defeated Siner in 2023. Since then, the Italian has recorded nine triumphs in a row, and leads the overall score 10:4.
"First of all, I'm terribly sorry about the final. It wasn't my best day. But, of course, congratulations to Janik. You are by far the best player in the world right now. Really, most people, including the rest of us, don't have a chance against you at the moment. Also congratulations to your team, you do an incredible job every week. I hope we get a chance someday... Maybe at Roland Garros," Zverev said.
