World number three Iga Švjontek advanced to the round of 16 of the Rome Masters today, after defeating domestic player Elizabeta Koćareto 6:1, 6:0.
The Polish player recorded a victory over the 41st ranked tennis player in the world in an hour and five minutes.
Svjontek dominated for most of the match, breaking her opponent's serve twice in the first set, while doing so three times in the second half of the game, eventually using the fourth match point.
In the next round, Swiontek, a three-time Rome Masters champion, plays against world number 16 Naomi Osaka from Japan.
Earlier today, the second-ranked tennis player in the world from Kazakhstan, Elena Rybakina, secured a place in the round of 16 of the Masters in Rome, defeating the Filipino player Alexandra Eala (42nd on the WTA list) 6:4, 6:3.
Rybakina will face the winner of the match between German player Laura Zigmund (46th) and Czech Karolina Pliskova (130th) in the round of 16.
