Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won the title at the Rome tournament tonight, after defeating world number four American Coco Gauff in the final after three sets - 6:4, 6:7, 6:2.
Svitolina, ranked 10th on the WTA rankings, won after two hours and 49 minutes and won the trophy in Rome for the third time in her career. She previously triumphed in the Italian capital in 2017 and 2018. Goff started well, leading 2-0 and 4-2, but Svitolina then won four consecutive games and took the lead in the match.
In the second set, the players each made one break and a tie-break was played, which Goff won 7:3.
The Ukrainian tennis player played better in the third set, making two breaks in the fifth and seventh games and after the third match point, she won the 20th title of her career.
Svitolina became the fifth active tennis player to win 20 WTA titles, joining Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Šviontek.
Goff played in the final for the second year in a row and has yet to win the trophy in Rome.
She was trying to become the second American to win a clay-court tournament in the 1000 series, after Serena Williams.
