Former world number one Serena Williams will compete in the doubles competition at the Berlin tournament, almost four years after retiring, organizers announced today.
The winner of 23 Grand Slam titles will return to court next week at Queen's in London, where she will play doubles with Canadian Victoria Emboko.
The organizers of the tournament in Berlin announced that the 44-year-old Williams will play in doubles, but it is not yet known who her partner will be.
"Every tournament I add to my schedule right now is special, and Berlin is no exception. I'm excited to compete in front of the fans in Germany and continue to build momentum for the grass-court season," Williams said.
There is speculation that Serena has returned to the court with the intention of participating in Wimbledon, the tournament where she has won six titles.
Williams has not played since ending her career at the 2022 US Open.
