Djokovic after historic duel: "This is why I still play tennis"

Novak Djokovic showed tonight that even at the threshold of his fifth decade, he is ready to win marathon matches.

The best tennis player of all time defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-2 after five hours and 15 minutes of fighting in the longest quarterfinal in Wimbledon history.

At 39 years and 38 days, he became the second oldest tennis player to reach the Wimbledon semifinals, where he will face world number one Janik Siner.

The only one older than Novak to reach the top four at the third Grand Slam of the season was Ken Rosewall at 39 years and 234 days.

When asked how he won this match, Djokovic had a simple answer.

"With a racket and a big heart."

He's worried about how his body will react to a match like this.

"I managed to control my nerves, the tension is felt in matches like this. Anyone could have won, it was completely even until the end. What can I say? These are the moments that keep me playing tennis. I wish it was the final, so I wouldn't have to worry about how my body will feel tomorrow. I'm happy," Novak underlined.
