Noskova dedicates Wimbledon title to late mother: "I wouldn't be here without her"

Czech tennis player Linda Noskova said that she had to work hard to win the Wimbledon trophy and emphasized that she was glad that she played her first Grand Slam final against compatriot Karolina Muchova.

"It's never easy to win the last point. Karo, you really made me work hard for this," said Noskova.

Noskova won her first Grand Slam trophy of her career today, after defeating Muchova 6:2, 5:7, 6:3 in the Wimbledon final.

At 21, Noskova became the youngest Wimbledon champion since her idol, Czech legend Petra Kvitova, won the first of her two titles in London in 2011.

She also became the third Czech woman in the last four years to win Wimbledon, after Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024, and the tenth different winner in as many years.

Muhova and Noskova played together in doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they placed fourth.

"I'm very happy that I was able to play my first Grand Slam final with you. Today we made history. I believe that all our Czech fans at home are proud of us, so regardless of today's result, I think this was a good day for both of us," said Noskova.

Noskova became emotional during her victory speech when she mentioned her mother, who passed away two years ago.

"I definitely wouldn't be standing here without her, so thank you," said Noskova, who then looked up to the sky and blew a kiss.

Shortly before that, Muhova began her speech by calling Noskova "her former friend."

"I'm kidding, of course," Muhova quickly added.

"You're so young, and this was your first Grand Slam final and the way you handled it was truly incredible... You deserved it."

This was Muchova's second Grand Slam final, after she was defeated by Iga Švjontek at Roland Garros in 2023.

Noskova, currently ranked 12th in the WTA rankings, will climb to seventh, her new career-high, when the new rankings are released on Monday.
