Sinner defends Wimbledon title

The Wimbledon trophy will not change hands - Italian tennis player Jannik Siner defeated Alexander Zverev 3:1 (6:7, 7:6, 6:3, 6:4) today and defended the title he won last year.

Siner won his fifth Grand Slam title in his career. In addition to Wimbledon, he won twice at the Australian Open and once at the US Open.

"Amazing feeling. We both started well, Zverev served hard and fast, and I prepared especially for that and for that I want to thank the entire team. The final was exceptional, we gave it our all. I am happy with the victory and the level of tennis we showed in the final. This is a special place, especially because of the people we are playing in front of," Siner pointed out.

On the other hand, Zverev only has the Roland Garros trophy when it comes to major tournaments.

"Janik showed once again why he is the best player in the world. It was great to share the court with you, it is a great honor to be here with you. Congratulations to you and your team, but I wish the match had ended differently. Congratulations to my team too - we have had an amazing two months. I have never been past the quarter-finals of Wimbledon before, and today I played the final. I also want to thank the fans, the stands were full, I have never felt such support at Wimbledon before. This is the most special court in the world, it is an extraordinary honor to play here," said Zverev.

There was only one break point in the first set. It was in the eighth game, when Siner had a chance to break his opponent's serve, but Zverev pulled away. Both players served well, so the first set went into a tiebreak, in which Zverev took the lead.

There was no break chance in the second set, a tie-break was played in which Siner was convincing, and tied the set.

Zverev started the third set nervously, Siner didn't take advantage of his chances at the beginning, so the game was tied until the middle of that part of the game. Then in the seventh game Zverev missed his first break chance of the match, and in the very next game Siner got his first break of the match. That break was enough for him to turn the tables and take the lead in sets.

The fourth set was decided in the seventh game, when Siner achieved another break, which was enough for him to confirm the victory and the title at the biggest tennis tournament in the world.
