The fourth-ranked American tennis player in the world, Coco Gauff, advanced to the round of 16 of the Cincinnati tournament, after defeating her compatriot, 29th-ranked Ann Li, in two sets, 6:1, 7:6, last night in the third round.
The match lasted one hour and 36 minutes.
Gauff broke her compatriot four times, while Li won two breaks.
Goff will play in the round of 16 against the world's 27th-ranked Czech Marija Bouzkova, who defeated Ivo Jović.
The 11th ranked tennis player in the world, Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, also reached the round of 16, defeating the 240th ranked player in the world, American Sloane Stephens, in the third round after two sets, 7:5, 7:5.
The match lasted one hour and 41 minutes.
Kostyuk broke the American tennis player six times, while Stephens won four breaks.
Kostyuk will play against world number six Russian Mira Andreeva in the round of 16.
Arina Sabaljenka also advanced to the round of 16, defeating China's Wang 2:0 (6:1, 6:3).
