The senior men's volleyball team of Montenegro is in Podgorica, where it is preparing in full intensity for its debut appearance in the Golden League. Among the young forces that received an invitation is the 21-year-old middle blocker Matija Ćinćur, who shares his first impressions after the gathering of a significantly rejuvenated selection, led by new coach Ivica Jevtić.
For Ćinćur, competition within the team is not an obstacle, but a valuable incentive for individual and collective progress. In his position, he trains alongside the most experienced player on the team, Luka Babić, and young teammates Nikola Đurović and Dalibor Lečić.
"I generally believe that competition is the most beautiful thing possible in any team, because it simply forces you to give your best every day, which later results in great progress. What is, of course, important to emphasize is that we have healthy competition, where we help each other and push each other to be better from training to training. I am truly happy and fulfilled to work in such conditions," Ćinćur points out for the Association's website.
Although it is still early to draw final conclusions, the first days of preparations have left a positive impression on the young volleyball player, and he is particularly pleased with the collective dedication and good energy in the team.
"It's still too early to talk about specific impressions and expectations, but my current observations are extremely positive. What makes me very happy is that everyone is willing to work, both the players and the coaching staff. Of course, a period of adaptation to the coach's demands is needed, but for now it's really working and I think we've enjoyed the refreshment. There are a lot of challenges ahead of us, and I hope that we will respond to them as best as possible, because I believe that with this kind of work and dedication we can make a breakthrough in the future."
Speaking about his personal form and transition from club rhythm to national team, Ćinćur remains modest, but also clear about his priorities.
"There's no exact recipe for that. The season was successful and the form was at a good level, and what's a priority for me is to transfer that form to the national team through my effort and commitment," concludes Matija.
The first tournament in the Golden League awaits the seniors in Romania, with whom they will play on June 6, and the day after with the Latvian national team. The second tournament will be held in Podgorica from June 13 to 15, when they will welcome the Czech Republic and Finland national teams, and their rivals in the final tournament in North Macedonia a weekend later will be Israel, along with the host team.
The CEV Golden League final tournament will be held from July 4th to 6th in Brno, Czech Republic.
