The Montenegrin women's volleyball team begins a historic appearance in the CEV Gold League.
Our volleyball players are making their debut in the prestigious competition, and at the start they will face a tournament hosted by them - they will meet Spain and Ukraine.
Montenegro welcomes its rivals to the "Verde" hall, and the first duel is on Friday with the Spanish team (18 p.m., admission is free).
"Spain played two friendly matches with Belgium a few days ago. We watched them and they play fast volleyball, they have quality, and what is unknown is what we will be like. We have not played friendly matches and the first two matches in the tournament should be a cross-section of the situation for us and to see what the capacity of the national team is with this composition. We will prepare well, we need to be patient and see what we can do," said coach Jovo Caković.
On the second day of the tournament, Spain and Ukraine will meet, while the Ukrainians will face Montenegro on Sunday. All matches will be played from 18 p.m.
"I think the preparations went very well, although we had a few setbacks. Simona Petranović will not be playing due to injury, but I think we have a great period behind us, that we have gotten used to the work of the new coach and that we are correcting the details in the game that previously caused us problems," says middle blocker Mina Dragović.
The Golden League is a real prelude to the European Championship qualifiers.
"We need to enter the tournament as bravely as possible. Of course, qualifying for the European Championship is our priority, but we definitely don't want to miss out on the Golden League. We want to prove ourselves in this competition, to see where we stand in relation to the stronger teams and that way we will best prepare for what awaits us. The first match is against Spain, we need to focus on it, and it means a lot to us that we are the hosts and we need the support of the audience," Dragović emphasized and concluded:
"Spain is a fast team. We need a real block defense, but it's important that we think more about ourselves and our game."
Simona Petranović and Melissa Cenović are missing due to injuries, and Caković is counting on 14 players for the first tournament.
