The Montenegrin women's volleyball team was defeated today in Podgorica by Ukraine 3:1 (25:20, 21:25, 25:18, 25:12) in the second match of the first weekend of the Golden League.
Thus, Jovo Caković's team ended the first weekend of their premier participation in the Golden League with two defeats, as they lost to Spain in the first match (3:0).
From a score of 6:6 in the first set, Ukraine tied four points, took a 10:6 lead, had an eight-point advantage (18:10) and easily took the lead.
In the second set, Montenegro was better, leading from the start of that part of the game, and after three consecutive points, they reached plus five (20:15), which was enough to tie the game.
Our team fought in the third set, it was uncertain until 10:10, and then Ukraine went to 17:10 and regained the lead.
In the fourth set, Ukraine consistently led, tied 15 points from a score of 12:10 and reached victory.
"This is our second match. It is not imperative to get a result in the Golden League. It was much better than against Spain. I hope that in the next matches we will have more motivated players, who will make a greater contribution. Today we had a very motivated Nikoleta Perović, who won a lot of points. But, to win a match like this, other players, service receivers and middle blockers need to join in. I hope that we will grow throughout the Golden League," said coach Jovo Caković after the match.
Our volleyball team will play the matches of the long weekend of the Golden League in Slovakia – against Azerbaijan on June 7th, and the day after against the host team. They will conclude the league part of the competition with a tournament in Hungary, where they will play against the home team on June 13th and Portugal on June 14th.
The final tournament of the Golden League will be held in Angelholm, and along with the host, the Swedish national team, the three best national teams from a single table will advance to the final. The final tournament is scheduled for the period from 27 to 29 June.
