The women's volleyball team will conclude its debut participation in the CEV Golden European League at the third tournament, which will be held from Friday to Sunday in Kaposvár, Hungary.
After their first victory in the match against Azerbaijan in Bratislava, coach Jovo Caković's young team awaits two important matches and, as the coach says, big lessons.
"The last weekend of the regular season of the Golden League awaits us. I expect us to be better than during the first two weekends. I would be happiest if we achieved a good result. What is most important is that we raise the level of play compared to the previous tournament in Slovakia," said coach Jovo Caković.
The first rival is the tournament host, Hungary, a regular participant in the European Championships since 2015, a team that has lost only to Slovenia and is in a group of four teams with a score of 3-1. That match will be played on Friday, June 13, at 18 p.m.
A day later, at the same time, the "reds" are expected to meet a well-known rival, Portugal, a team that Montenegro played twice in the CEV Silver European League group two seasons ago, then in the third-place match, and then in last year's edition of the Silver League in the current system. Our national team achieved one victory, in SC "Igalo", 3:0, which qualified them for the final tournament of the competition in 2023.
Portugal is also a debutant in the Golden League, and is on the same form as Montenegro, with one win and three losses, after a 3-1 triumph over Slovenia.
Two rounds before the end, only Ukraine is 4%, with the maximum number of points, and among the teams leading the way to the final tournament in Angelholm are Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Hungary, with three wins each, with the Swedes, as the host team, already in the top XNUMX of the tournament.
"We had enough time to recover and prepare for what awaits us. We continue to give our best, without pressure, but with the desire to play competitively and smartly. I think we have a great chance to record more victories and successfully complete our participation in the Golden League. The team has been rejuvenated and this is a great experience for all of us. We have great pleasure in working with the new coach and coaching staff, with whom progress is guaranteed," said national team player Marija Šušić.
Coach Caković will have the same team at his disposal as in Bratislava, with a total of 14 players.
