After six matches and a historic debut, the women's volleyball team has secured a place in the next edition of the CEV Golden European League.
The Montenegrin women's volleyball team lost to Portugal 3:1 (23:25, 25:18, 25:21, 25:22) in the final match of the third tournament in Kaposvar, but thanks to Azerbaijan's 3:0 defeat to Romania, they secured their survival.
Coach Jovo Caković's team opened the match in Kapošvar phenomenally, with a spectacular series of seven consecutive points, gaining a huge lead, 13:4, but the opening part of the match had an uncertain ending.
Portugal tied the game, the last time at 22:22, but the onslaught of their rivals did not deter Caković's young team. Montenegro took advantage of the second set point and took the lead at 25:23.
The remaining three sets went to the Portuguese, who recorded their second triumph after 108 minutes.
Nikoleta Perović's brilliant offensive performance did not bring Montenegro more than a set. The captain won 20 points and was the most efficient player in the match.
Saška Đurović also stood out with eight points, and one of the youngest players, Darja Popović, had six points.
For Portugal, four players scored in double figures, with Margarida Maia leading the way with 16 points.
The young Montenegrin team ended its debut appearance with one victory, which it achieved at the tournament in Bratislava, over Azerbaijan 3:1.
A large number of debutants were given the opportunity to play against quality rivals, gaining significant experience for future actions, and the next one is in August, when they will play key matches for a historic place in the European Championship, against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Latvia.
