The Montenegrin women's volleyball team qualified for the European Championship, and the red team achieved the greatest success in the history of Montenegrin volleyball with a round to go by defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina in Goražde 3:0.
That's why everything in Kolašin tonight will be about celebration, although Jovo Caković's girls will also have the motive to book their ticket to Eurovolley as first-place teams with a victory against Latvia (19pm).
"We really want a fairly full hall in Kolašin to greet these girls, to support them once again, to win that last match, win first place in the group and celebrate this great success together," Nikola Kažić, president of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, told TVE.
He also spoke about the match with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"In a hall full of local fans, our volleyball team showed great character and great quality as a visiting team, qualifying for the European Championship with a 3:0 victory over the great team of Bosnia and Herzegovina."
He continued in a similar vein…
"We started a little weaker, losing in the first set, even by five points, but we came back, won that set, dominated the second set again and the third was also uncertain, but the girls showed great character, above all great quality to play bravely at all times in that hall, full of fans of the other team, home fans, and always be there for each other and I think we acted quite homogeneous and compact, both us in the stands and those on the court. This is truly the greatest success of Montenegrin women's volleyball in these 19 years since the restoration of independence," said Kažić.
He says they believed the time had come for the women's volleyball team to go to the European Championship, and so they announced.
"That announcement itself was not based on anything unrealistic, but rather on the quality we showed even in that debut season and the Golden League two months ago, where we won, where we also managed to survive there and played against the best teams in Europe. This was just another additional step, another action with the coach and the fantastic coaching staff, who really did a phenomenal job, and when all that came together, we left motivated to finish the job in that first match, fortunately for us we succeeded," concluded Kažić.
Admission to tonight's match is free.
