After a shocking defeat to MAV Elora and a missed match point, the Buducnost volleyball team reacted perfectly. They defeated Maribor in Podgorica 3:0 (28:26, 25:19, 27:25) and thus made club history.
In the third tournament match, which was played earlier than originally planned, due to Maribor's participation in the tournament in Budva and cost rationalization, Buducnost played bravely and in a match that brought three fairly even sets, they were at their best against the guest from Slovenia.
Maribor had the advantage for most of the first set, however, with a phenomenal finish, Buducnost took a big step towards victory. In a constant chase after the guests in SC "Verde", Dejan Radić's team saved two set points, and ended the set with a 4:1 run and took a 28:26 lead.
That feat gave wings to the blue and whites, who increased their lead to 2:0 from a convincing 25:19, in a set in which they were dominant in the finals, and then won a thriller in the third set and completed a perfect day of Montenegrin volleyball in the regional competition, as Budva had earlier defeated the MAV Elora team.
It was very even again, although both teams managed to pull away at times to a three or four point advantage, but after the 30th point, the result was a seesaw. In it, Budućnost was the first to have the match point at 24:23, then saved their rivals' set point at 25:24 and with a 3:0 series came to their first triumph in the MEVZA league.
Luka Lojić led the way with 16 points, followed by Marko Vukašinović with 13 and captain Jovan Delić with 11 points. Marko Sinđelić finished the match with six points, while Srđan Petrović had five. Maribor had the most efficient player of the match, Carlos Santana, with 18 points.
The victory over Maribor is a good sign for Buducnost, as they face the same rival in a two-legged CEV Challenge Cup. The Montenegrin vice-champion will conclude their debut tournament with a derby against Budva, which they will host tomorrow at 18 pm, and MAV Elora and Maribor will also meet at 15 pm.
In the 3rd tournament, which is planned for January 2026, Budućnost will also play against the Austrian Zadruga team, and in the meantime, a tournament in Maribor awaits them with tonight's rival and the Zagreb team Mladost.
