The two best Montenegrin teams in previous seasons, Budva and Buducnost, continue their chase for the places that lead to the final four of the MEVZA league. From the second and third positions in the standings, after three matches played each, our representatives in the regional volleyball league travel to Maribor and Bleiburg, respectively, where they are chasing big points.
Buducnost will conclude their playoff campaign this month – on Tuesday, December 16, they will face Mursa in Maribor, where they will play Mladost Zagreb a day later. Both matches with the leading teams of the Croatian Super League are scheduled for 14 p.m. On Thursday, December 18, the Podgorica team will conclude their participation in the tournaments by visiting the only team with three wins, the Austrian Zadar in Bleiburg, starting at 19 p.m.
"After an excellent start in the MEVZA League, where we showed exceptional quality in the first tournament and ranked at the very top of this competition, the second tournament is coming against very high-quality teams. We are eagerly awaiting these matches, where we want to prove our quality again and take one of the top four places that will lead us to the final four. Once again, the team has the opportunity to play at the highest level, and that motivates us a lot because we have a team of incredible fighters for victories. I am proud of everything we have done as a team so far in the season, but the job is not done," said Budućnost coach Dejan Radić.
His boys beat Budva in the first tournament at the Mediterranean Sports Center, and against the Hungarian MAV Elore they let go of a 2:0 lead and missed the match point. As hosts, in the third tournament match, which was played in Podgorica by agreement of the teams, they were better than Maribor 3:0.
Budva will play only one match in Bleiburg by the end of the year, against the leader, Zadruga, who defeated the Croatian and Slovenian representatives. The match is scheduled for December 17, starting at 19 p.m. Miljan Bošković's team will face Mladost and Mursa in January, in Zagreb, at the third tournament.
"I believe that, despite the large number of trips in a short period of time, we will manage to gather strength and play a very good game in Bleiburg. I believe that the team will show character and energy, as in the MEVZA league so far, where, after three rounds played in Budva, we can be very satisfied with the achieved performance. I expect a competitive game and the continuation of the game in the same rhythm," is optimistic the coach of the Montenegrin champion, Miljan Bošković.
Budva, like Budućnost, is at 2-1 after victories over Maribor and MAV Elore at home, so they enter the MEVZA league finals with high hopes. Mladost has a half-hearted record after two matches, Maribor has recorded all four losses, and Mursa two.
