The young volleyball players of Montenegro (U18) achieved great success by advancing to the semifinals of the zonal qualification tournament for the European Championship.
Milan Milošević's team, after an opening victory over Greece and then a defeat against home team Bulgaria, defeated Kosovo today in the third round of Group A with a maximum score of 3:0 (25:9, 25:22, 25:17).
Even two wins, however, would not have been enough to advance to the semifinals if Bulgaria had not done its part and justified its role as the favorite against Greece (3:1), although the result did not mean much to them. Our players' rival in the semifinals will be Turkey.
Our girls showed in the first set that they would be convincing against Kosovo, which they won 25:9. Coach Milošević rotated, all players contributed to the victory, which was certain after an excellent end to the second set in which they raised the level of play and used the second set point.
There was no uncertainty in the third set, Montenegro was in the lead the entire time and concluded the match on Staša Jovović's serve with a 5:0 series.
Klara Đukić and Đina Lekić were the leading scorers with nine points each, Sofija Duletić and Elena Čolaković scored six each, Lina Milivojević, Anastasija Koprivica and Bojana Krasnić scored five each. For Kosovo, Buna Žubi was the most efficient with seven points.
Only the winner of the tournament advances to the European Championship, while the teams ranked 2nd to 5th advance to the second round of qualifications.
In the second semi-final, Bulgaria will play Romania, while Serbia and Greece will meet in a duel for 3rd place.
