The second half of April will be marked by the fight for the title in the EPCG Women's Volleyball Super League. Herceg Novi and Luka Bar will meet again in the fight for the Montenegrin Champion's Cup, as was the case in 2024. Then, the team from Novi defended their first championship title, won in a series with Galeb, and two years later they are playing for the fourth in a row.
The first match of the final series will be played at SC "Igalo", on Sunday, April 19, starting at 20 p.m., and both teams are in good form - Luka Bar is unbeaten in 2026, and Herceg Novi has only lost in the Cup final to the team Buducnost.
The finalists finished the semi-final series in two matches each, and before the fight for the cup they met four times, with Luka Bar winning the Super Cup and Novi Novi triumphing in the league part of the championship and the quarter-finals of the Cup. These were the only defeats of the "Sirens", which speaks of the quality of their rivals, points out Herceg Novi coach Marko Radusinović.
"We are aware of the quality of the Luka Bar team, which has been playing at a really high level throughout the season. In the league part of the competition, we were the only ones who managed to defeat them. We enter this final as equal rivals, bearing in mind that they have the best corrector and middle blocker in our league, with other positions also well-filled. On the other hand, we are not without reason the only undefeated team in the league part, although we welcome them with a somewhat changed lineup compared to the first part of the season. As three-time consecutive champions of Montenegro, we hope and believe that through good play we will manage to preserve that title," said Radusinović and invited the audience to enjoy good volleyball.
Luka Bar's head coach Vladimir Milačić also expects an interesting series and believes that his team has something to show.
"I think we are in for a tough and exhausting final series. This year, Herceg Novi has great quality, but we have shown in our mutual meetings that they are not invincible," emphasized the long-time coach of the "Sirens".
A key part of Herceg Novi's success over the years is libero Melisa Cenović, who spent a large part of her career with Luka Bar. The rivals know each other very well, which will bring additional uncertainty to the series.
"I think we have a pretty serious series of matches ahead of us, it won't be easy, but I believe in our quality and I know we will do our best to win the trophy. I want to take this opportunity to invite all sports fans to follow this final and enjoy some good volleyball," said the champion's captain.
Luka Bar's libero, Sara Kovač, is optimistic about the season's crowning glory.
"We have the final series of the Montenegrin championship ahead of us against the team from Herceg Novi and we are ready for a big challenge. We have worked hard throughout the season and believe in our quality, team spirit and the energy we bring to the field. We enter the final motivated and with great optimism, determined to give our maximum and make our club and fans happy with the title."
Luka Bar has been the champion of Montenegro 12 times since 2006, and in addition to the record for the number of titles, it also holds the record for the number of finals – it is expected to be the 17th in history. Herceg Novi enters the finals of the season after losing two cup matches – in the Super Cup to Baranci and the final of the Cup to Buducnost.
The series is played to three wins, and the second match of the final is scheduled for Wednesday at SC “Topolica, in Bar.
