The International Volleyball Memorial Tournament "Nikola Zenović - 2026" starts on Friday in Budva.
The participation of 15 teams, 10 men's and five women's, has been announced, and the opening is scheduled for 18 p.m. at the Mediterranean Sports Center.
The eleventh tournament will bring together veterans, male and female volleyball players from Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and France.
At the first memorial tournament, which Nikola's friends organized in his honor in 2014, Sarajevo's Bosna, the former champion of Yugoslavia, participated.
The following year, on the court of the Mediterranean Sports Center, Zagreb's Mladost, the most trophy-winning volleyball club in the then Yugoslavia, played.
Since 2016, the tournament has featured veterans from clubs from Skopje, Belgrade, and Zagreb.
The winning trophy ended up in the hands of former Olympic, world and European medal winners.
Over 120 teams and more than 1.200 volleyball players participated in the past 10 tournaments.
Many participants in Budva tournaments know little about Nikola's playing career.
They listened to the story of a volleyball enthusiast whose career began and ended in the lowest tier, the republican league.
However, the true greats of the game of volleyball, now in their later years, could and can only be brought together by a man like the late Nikola, who was loved, respected and beloved wherever he appeared.
All conditions have been met for the "Nikola Niko Zenović" memorial tournament to be an integral part of the tourist offer of Budva, and why not Montenegro as well.
The final matches are scheduled for Sunday.
