The Montenegrin U17 women's volleyball team opened the Balkan Championship in Ferizaj in a perfect manner, defeating the host team, the Kosovo national team, 3:0 (25:17, 25:16, 25:17).
Coach Milan Milošević's team finished the job of closing the opening day of the tournament in just over an hour. The team controlled the tempo throughout, played confidently, made a minimum of mistakes, and made a dominant start to the Balkan Championship.
Right from the start, Montenegro let their rivals know that they came for the win – they took a 4:1 lead, then a 4:0 run on Elena Jovanović's serve to go 13:6, and it was after Elena's attack that our team had +10 for the first time (23:13). Kosovo's response was cut short by coach Milošević with a timeout, after which his team concluded the set without any problems.
It was similar in the remaining two parts of the game – in the following periods the host team was in the game for ten points, after which Montenegro broke away to +2 and played with ease. After five consecutive points it was 12:6 for our team, the timeouts of coach Kadriu did not disrupt the rhythm of Sofija Duletić and the team, which added gas in the finish and reached 2:0 with 25:16.
In the first half of the third set, Kosovo put up the most resistance against Montenegro. They were leading 11:9 when Milošević reacted with a break, and after that the "reds" won four consecutive points and never looked back. The opponents tried to get closer, but by the end of the set they only managed to get to 17 points, and Montenegro used the second match point with an excellent double block.
In the ranks of Montenegro, the most efficient was Elena Jovanović with 14 points, Sofija Duletić counted up to nine, and Jelena Ćorović seven. For Kosovo, the best was Medina Bajrami with six points, and three volleyball players had five each.
Our cadets' next match is on Wednesday, against Albania at 15 p.m., which will be the first of three matches on the second day of the Balkan Championship.
