The junior (U19) water polo team of Montenegro was defeated by Greece in the derby of Group B at the European Championship, in a direct clash for the first place, which leads to a place in the quarterfinals.
Slobodan Mačić's team lost 8:6 in an uncertain match, so tomorrow at 16.30:XNUMX they will play against the Netherlands in the play-off for placement among the top eight.
Our water polo players took the lead only once, at the start (a goal by Dušan Matković), and then they chased the lead of their opponent, who is one of the favorites for gold in Minsk.
The Hellenes had a two-goal advantage for most of the match, and Montenegro had the last shot 78 seconds before the end when Savo Ćetković in an attack with a player reduced the score to 7:6.
After that, however, Mačić's men had no chance to reach a draw, as they received two exclusions, the second of which resulted in a goal by Kostantinos Juvecis from the box 31 seconds before the end for the final 8:6.
Đuro Radović was a double scorer in our team, and Ćetković, Marjan Mitrović, Matković and Branko Franeta each scored once.
If they beat the Dutch, Montenegro will meet Hungary, the best team in Group C, in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
