The start of the season was not promising. They suffered a heavy defeat against Mladost in the Adriatic League, Primorac was stronger in the semi-finals of the Cup, but their form was reached at the right time.
And the results arrived - after appearing in the final four of the regional competition, the Budva water polo players crowned the season with the second title of the champion of Montenegro, and the third in the club's history, because the first one was won back in 1995 by the dream team with Aleksandar Šoštar, Igor Milanović, Goran Radjenović ...
Drago Pejaković's team constantly improved their form, injuries became less and less frequent, so there was almost no dilemma in the decisive matches.
After an easy triumph against Primorje in the first match of the playoff final in their pool, Budva survived a bad start in Kotor, turned from 0:3 to 5:3 and ended the season in the best possible way in which all Montenegrin clubs were forced to play with rejuvenated teams...
"While I was playing for Primorac, our league was one of the best in Europe, but the economic crisis affects all clubs. A lot of players are forced to go to foreign clubs, but I hope that will change. My role has also changed, because I was among the youngest in Primorac and now I'm one of the oldest. Several of our young players were pushed into the fire, but the club was simply forced to do it. This was their first season in which they had a lot of minutes and they performed well They have a long and tiring season behind them, I hope they will continue their good work and have successful careers," sums up Dragan Drašković's impressions.
The twenty-four-year-old from Kotor had to play against his emotions in the finals, because on the other side of the pool were the water polo players of the club where he played until 2011, when he went to the Italian Ćivitavekja.
"It was unusual for me. A lot of emotions bind me to that club, with which I won everything that can be won. There were a lot of good memories, but unfortunately also bad ones, related to well-known problems. I hope that Primorac will return to former level, as well as the entire Montenegrin league".
Drašković recalls the second match of the final and the 3:0 deficit, which forced Pejaković, another former player of Primorje, to ask for a time-out.
"It is very difficult for visiting teams to play in Kotor, because the fans wear Primorac during the game. With three excellent shots, he led 3:0, but we reacted quickly and got back into the game. Pejaković only told us to calm down at the timeout and to find our game, which we did".
Perhaps this season would have been even better for the team from the capital of Montenegrin tourism if there were no problems with injuries to key players.
"That was reflected in the Cup, as well as the fact that 90 percent of the team was changed compared to last year. Vukmirović, Radunović, Kovačević and other young players had to carry a significantly greater load of the game, but they performed quite well, especially Vukmirović. This season will mean a lot to them, but they have to stay calm, composed, not to get too excited. If they continue with this kind of work, they have a bright future ahead of them. This was all new to me too, because I was among the more experienced for the first time, so they We now see the actions of older players more clearly when I was in Primorac," concluded Drašković, who will rest until May 15, when he will join the Montenegrin national team.
