The young water polo team of Montenegro justified their role as favorites against Japan in the first duel for the fifth to eighth place at the World Championship.
Veljko Uskoković's team celebrated the result of 18:11 and will play on Friday at 14 pm for the fifth position with Spain, which defeated the USA selection after the penalty shootout.
"We won a game that we had to win, and it was difficult to come back after yesterday's game. Japan plays atypically, with a lot of swimming and swimming, everyone struggled with them. We also had problems for two and a half quarters, but later everything fell into place. We had a blast and celebrated convincingly. No one has beaten us yet in this championship, I hope it will remain so after the last match.
"We regret yesterday's game and the defeat, we could have gone a different way. We rose up today, played a great game against an unpleasant Japan. It was good," said Nebojša Vušković.
By far the best individual in the victory over the Japanese team was Savo Ćetković with seven goals from nine attempts.
Yesterday, Montenegro was defeated by Serbia in the quarter-finals, and previously it was against Hungary in the first elimination game.
