In the first friendly match at Škver, Montenegrin water polo players defeated the United States of America 18:17 after five rounds.
An interesting match at the open pool in Herceg Novi could have been resolved in regular time, but the "sharks" did not use the attack with the player anymore.
Admittedly, everything could have been resolved much earlier, because Vladimir Gojković's weakened team dominated until the middle of the 3rd quarter and led as much as 9:4.
The Yankees, however, responded with a 5:0 run and tied the game three and a half minutes before the end. Savo Ćetković and Marko Mršić twice brought a new advantage to the home team, but Alexander Bowen made the final 65:11 11 seconds before the end.
In the first six series of five-pointers, all players were accurate, before Luka Cupido was inaccurate. Stefan Vidović punished that and brought victory to Montenegro.
"Sharks" played with a rejuvenated team, as Aleksandar Ivović, Dejan Lazović, Uroš Čučković, Vladan Spaić, Aleksa Ukropina and Bogdan Đurđić were absent due to club commitments.
Dušan Matković was the most effective with five goals, Đuro Radović scored three, Vidović, Mršić and Dragan Drašković scored two each, and Ćetković, captain Draško Brguljan, Vlado Popadić and Dušan Banićević scored one each.
For the visitors, Bowen was the best with four.
This was the first friendly match as part of the preparations for the World League final tournament (Georgia, June 24 - July 1) and going to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
After preparations with the USA, Gojković's team will train with France from June 7 to 12, also at Škver. From June 17 to 19, he will stay in Podgorica, and then he will go to Italy for sparring with "setebel". After returning from Georgia, the team will train at the pools in Nikšić and Podgorica.
