There are few matches in the Champions League, especially away games, before which Jadran Carine can be declared the favorite.
One of them is tonight's clash between Novljan and Dutch Alfen (20.30:12 p.m.), a team that last played in Europe XNUMX years ago.
Alfen is not anonymous in the world of water polo, because he also played in two European Cup finals - against Pro Rek in 1985 in the Champions Cup, when the Italians won the second of a total of eight titles, and with Partizan in 1991 in the Cup Winners' Cup.
At the start two weeks ago, Jadran defeated Spandau in Igalo, and if they celebrate in this game as well, it would be a serious indicator that the Montenegrin champion has ambitions to qualify for the final tournament in Genoa.
However, even though it is the favorite, the team from Škver does not want to leave anything to chance before the match with Alfen.
"We are preparing for the game based on the material collected from the Dutch championship. I honestly believe that we are the better team at this moment and that we will win if we give as much as we objectively can," said Jadran coach Vladimir Gojković.
Alfen reached the Champions League thanks to the wild card, it has a large number of international players, and how far it is from the quality required for the European elite, is also shown by the fact that at the start it lost to Pro Rek with as much as 19:1.
"We didn't use much material from that match. Because it's simply not relevant. The difference in quality is huge, and Pro Reko is the best team in Europe," added Gojković.
After all, Jadran is playing in Alfen to continue a great streak of victories in all competitions - in a series of six triumphs, Marseille (twice in the playoffs for the Champions League), Spandau (Champions League), POŠK, Jadran Split fell in a row. and Budva in the regional A1 league.
Pairs of the 2nd round - group A: Jug - Partizan (18.15:18.30 p.m.), Olympiakos - Dinamo Moscow (20.30:20.30 p.m.), OSC - VASPO Hanover, (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.), Brescia - Barceloneta (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).
Group B: Eger - Pro Reko (18.30), Spandau - Sabadelj (18.30), Solnok - Steaua (18.30), Alfen - Jadran Carine (20.30).
