Montenegrin water polo players once again reached the quarter-finals of a major competition, but did not complete their competitive duties at the European Championship.
They still have a playoff for placing from 5th to 8th place, the outcome of which will determine whether they will qualify for the world championship from Split, or whether they will have to go through an additional qualification filter.
In the quarter-final match with Hungary two days ago, they were close and in the game again until one moment, but not good enough and constant.
In the end, the Hungarians won with 11:8.
"A heavy defeat. We thought we could beat them. We were close, but we conceded two or three easy goals, while in attack we had to fight for every goal. The Hungarians have several experienced players from big clubs and that was the deciding factor," said goalkeeper Petar Tešanović.
"Mistakes at the beginning of the last quarter cost us dearly. We gave the maximum, this was the ultimate range", continued Vladan Spaić.
Montenegro plays Greece today at 14:XNUMX - if it wins, it will qualify for the world championship, if it loses, it will have another chance for a triumph that leads to the end of the next big competition, and the rival would be defeated in the duel between France and Georgia.
"We will enter strong, of course we have a motive against Greece, which is one of the strongest teams in the world. We will do our best to win," Tesanovic said.
"In every game we have to look for the maximum and play to win," added Spaić.
