The young water polo selection of Montenegro, players up to 20 years old, will play in group A with Spain, Italy and Croatia at the world championship, it was decided by lot.
Greece, Serbia, the United States of America and Hungary will play in Group B.
The world championship, which is scheduled from June 10 to 17 in Bucharest and Otopeni, will be played according to a new format.
The best eight selections from the previous championship were placed in Division 1, in groups A and B, while the other participants were in Division 2, which has four groups with three teams each.
Canada, Japan, South Africa are in group C, Brazil, China, Kazakhstan are in group D, New Zealand, Peru, Romania are in group E, and Iran, Australia, Argentina are in group F.
The two best teams from groups A and B will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the third- and fourth-placed national teams from those groups, as well as the winners of groups C, D, E and F, will play playoff matches to advance to the top eight.
At the previous U20 World Championship, which was played in Prague in 2021, the Montenegrin team won the bronze medal, defeating Hungary in the fight for third place.
Gold went to Serbia, and silver to Italy.
