Montenegro will not enjoy the matches of the Champions League this season, although it will have a representative in the elite European competition.
Jadran water polo players from Herceg Novi will welcome their namesake from Split tomorrow (Saturday, 19 p.m.) in Trebinje, in the 2nd round of the Champions League.
The swimming pool of the Simo Milošević Institute in Herceg Novi has been damaged for years, LEN does not allow the matches of the strongest club competition to be played in a balloon (such as in Škver), and the Croatian representatives do not like the name of the pool (Zoran Gopčević) in Kotor, so Jadran decided to bring the Champions League to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Certainly an unusual situation, but the Montenegrin champion wants to chase victories even in such conditions...
"It's a bit specific, it's the first time we're playing in that city. We did a few training sessions, we didn't spend a long time in Trebenje, but now we've been here for two days and I hope we'll manage to acclimatize, play a good game and if we have the opportunity to let's record the first triumph in the Champions League," said Petar Radanović, coach of Jadran.
How to stop Vrlić?
However, after the powerful Ferencvaros in the promotion round, they now have another strong rival waiting for them.
"Jadran has really stepped up this year, they have a great team and it will be very difficult. I think the key is to stop their center Josip Vrlić, who is one of the best centers in the world. If we enter aggressively and are disciplined, I hope we will be able to achieve a good result," added Radanović.
The first time against Đur Radović
In the first round, Jadran tormented the FTC in Budapest for a long time, but in the end could not win a big victory (9:7 defeat), while its namesake beat Crvena zvezda (16:13).
"Jadran is certainly the team that brought the most reinforcements this summer. Loren Fatović, Vrlića and Đuro Radović, our former teammate, arrived," said Danilo Radović, one of the trump cards in Petr Radanović's team.
He just highlighted the duel with his former teammate.
"Those duels will be interesting - he is playing against us for the first time," added Radović.
He says about the match in Trebinje...
"A good team is waiting for us, but we also have enough chances and I think we can surprise them through the transition - which is what we are known for," concluded Radović.
In Budapest, the boys from Škver failed to surprise, but they welcome the match with their rival from Split after three victories in three matches in the Adriatic League.
